Symposium of the Central and Eastern European Chambers of Physicians (ZEVA)

The annual ZEVA Symposium has been providing a platform for exchange between the physicians’ chambers of Central and Eastern Europe since 1994. Similarly to Germany, most countries in this region have a strong tradition of independent medical chambers functioning as corporations under public law.

During the symposium, representatives from EU and non-EU member states discuss common challenges and share experiences in order to find ways to improve the working environment of physicians and the quality of healthcare in the interest of patients. In addition, memoranda are drawn up which aid in the consolidation and securing of the systems of medical self-administration in the respective countries.

The Memorandum of Cesky Krumlov on the “Public Functions and Professional Representation by Chambers of Physicians (and Dentists)”, which was adopted in 2000 by the 7th ZEVA Symposium in the Czech Republic, serves as a common basis for cooperation.
