BÄK im Dialog: Revisiting the Ottawa Charter: European Perspectives on Health Promotion and Policy

Four decades after its adoption, the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion remains as relevant as ever. The Charter’s fundamental principle - that health is not solely the task of the health system, but a shared responsibility across society as a whole - has gained renewed significance in the face of profound demographic, social, and geopolitical developments.

Today, prevention, health equity, health literacy, and “Health in All Policies” are central prerequisites for resilient health systems in Europe. However, in a rapidly changing political, social, and economic context, the question arises as to how these principles will continue to develop and translated into effective action.

• How can health promotion in Europe become more effective, equitable, and resilient?
• What are the responsibilities of the medical profession, policymakers, and civil society in shaping sustainable European health policy?

As part of its “BÄK im Dialog” series, the German Medical Association brings together diverse perspectives and invites participants to engage in an open, evidence-based, and solutions-oriented exchange. This year's event will take place on the occasion of the General Assembly of the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME) in Berlin. 

CPME is the umbrella organisation of national European medical associations, representing the interests of the medical profession. This unique opportunity enables the exchange with leading medical representatives from across Europe.
